Lamone briefed National Press Foundation fellows in April 2024: Women as the Backbone of Democracy

Linda H. Lamone was appointed by the Governor to be the State Administrator of Elections on July 1, 1997.  Ms. Lamone has a Juris Doctorate with high honors from the University of Maryland, School of Law.  She has served as an Assistant Attorney General for several Maryland State Agencies, as Special Counsel to the Lt. Governor of Maryland and was in private practice of law.

As the State Election Administrator, Ms. Lamone was the Chief Election Officer for the State and by statute was charged with maximizing the use of technology in election administration. Since her appointment, Ms. Lamone has overseen the development and implementation of a statewide voter registration system, and she implemented two uniform statewide voting systems.  Additionally, Ms. Lamone administered the development of a sophisticated candidate and campaign finance management program and an election management system that creates and certifies each ballot layout for the State of Maryland.

Ms. Lamone served on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Advisory Board and Technical Guidelines Development Committee and the Executive Committee of the National Association of State Election Directors.  She was a member of the Department of Homeland Security, Government Coordinating Council and the Maryland Cybersecurity Council. After serving for twenty-five years, Ms. Lamone retired in the fall of 2023.

Ms. Lamone continues as the Chairman of the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland.
