APPLY: ‘Your Body, Their Data?’ Journalism Fellowship

NPF is pleased to offer a new journalism fellowship taking place Nov. 29-Dec. 1: Your Body, Their Data? Reporting on Privacy, Tech and Biometrics.

From smartwatches to microchip implants, this training will equip reporters to cover the technical, legal and policy developments in the latest frontier of data privacy.

Reporting fellows will learn about:

  • The recently introduced American Data Privacy and Protection Act and other proposed legislation
  • Cutting-edge “smart” devices that can be attached to our bodies – or implanted or ingested – and their implications for consumers
  • Tracking public sentiment regarding data privacy, cybersecurity, surveillance
  • What HIPAA and FDA regulations cover – and what they don’t

U.S.-based journalists working in any medium (print, TV, radio, digital, podcast) are invited to apply. The fellowship covers hotel, airfare to Washington, D.C., and most meals.

20 Journalists Gather for “Living Longer: The New Age for Aging” Fellowship

Congratulations to the 20 journalists selected for our “Living Longer: The New Age for Aging” Journalism Fellowship! We’re thrilled to welcome them to the AARP headquarters this week for training sessions examining the complexities of an increasingly multigenerational workforce.

APPLY NOW: Kozik Environmental Justice Reporting Grants

NPF and the National Press Club Journalism Institute will jointly award up to $75,000 in grants to journalists who plan to cover environmental justice.

Grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 will be awarded to support journalism in any medium that centers on environmental justice and environmental racism in the United States. This could include coverage of the disproportionate harms to disadvantaged communities from pollution, the effects of climate change or other relevant topics.

Applications are open now and will be accepted until Oct. 2, 2022. Work supported by these grants should be published or broadcast in a U.S. news outlet by April 2, 2023. U.S.-based journalists are eligible to apply.

DEADLINE SEPT. 30! Apply for NPF Annual Awards

NPF honors the best in journalism and will celebrate winners at our Annual Awards Dinner, Feb. 23, 2023. It could be YOU!

Submissions must have been published or broadcast after Sept. 30, 2021. Entry fees are reduced to $25. No more than two submissions per news organization.

Awards include:

  • The Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade; $10,000
  • The $5,000 Innovative Storytelling Award
  • The Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting on Congress; $5,000
  • The Feddie Reporting Award: $5,000 for outstanding reporting on how federal laws or regulations impact a local community
  • The Clifford K. & James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartoons; $2,500
