NPF Board of Directors Rescinds Charlie Rose’s 2015 Award

The National Press Foundation Board of Directors has rescinded the 2015 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism to Charlie Rose, whose misconduct violated the standards and expectations associated with NPF award winners. The Board expressed its disappointment and dismay about the unprofessional conduct that has been revealed within the news industry. The Board strongly condemns workplace behavior that leads to exploitation, harassment or career limitations for journalists and staff of any age, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. As a way to uphold the highest levels of integrity and standards in the news media, the Board has asked NPF staff to provide training and education for journalists on how to cover sexual harassment issues and to promote best practices for cultivating safe work environments in newsrooms.
