As the nation heads into the thick of winter, concerns about another “tripledemic” of flu, COVID-19 and RSV are on the rise, and for COVID-19 in particular, January and February have been peak months for diagnoses over the last few years.
Like the vaccines, COVID-19 oral antiviral treatments have recently transitioned from a government-funded program to the commercial market with a traditional distribution model. For many, this change has implications for access to and coverage of COVID-19 treatments. This webinar aims to help journalists alleviate public confusion and answer pressing questions about access, costs and availability associated with the changes to coverage of COVID-19 antiviral treatments.
The National Press Foundation will bring together health and medical experts with a leading COVID journalist on a panel from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. ET on Jan. 11 to answer viewer-submitted questions.
Speakers will include Meghan Pennini, Chief Vaccine and Therapeutics Officer, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Alexander Tin, Digital Reporter, CBS News and Dr. Arti Barnes, Chief Medical Officer, Illinois Dept. of Public Health.
For millions of individuals in the U.S. who may be at higher risk for severe outcomes of COVID-19, such as older adults and the immunocompromised, it’s important to be prepared and know the most effective treatment options available. While COVID-19 vaccines remain a core component in preventing the most severe disease outcomes, some individuals may also benefit from antiviral treatments if they do become ill.
NPF wants to help journalists and their audiences better understand the future of COVID-19 in a “post-pandemic” world.
This is the second webinar supported by the COVID-19 Vaccine Education and Equity Project, a partnership of more than 250 organizations representing patients, caregivers, diverse communities, healthcare workers and scientists to provide information about the clinical trials process, regulatory review, distribution of and access to COVID-19 vaccines and treatments in a way that promotes equity and trust.
The first webinar, focusing on the changes in COVID-19 vaccine coverage, can be watched here:
