
Emmy Award-winning journalist, author and podcaster, Jemele Hill is the co-founder of Lodge Freeway Media, a contributing writer for The Atlantic, host of the Spotify podcasts, “Jemele Hill is Unbothered” and “Spolitics,” and author of Uphill, a Memoir (Henry Holt and Company, 2022). Prior to joining The Atlantic and writing her debut novel, Hill co-anchored SportsCenter with Michael Smith which debuted in February 2017 as a more personality-driven approach to the traditional 6 p.m. SportsCenter.
Hill’s 20-plus-year journalism career has included stops at the biggest sports media network and several reputable newspapers. Hill also is stretching her muscles behind the camera. She is the executive producer of the ESPN documentary on former NFL quarterback and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick. Hill is also currently developing a comedy series for Showtime with acclaimed actress Gabrielle Union and if you have been watching television lately, you may have seen Jemele on Power Book II: Ghost and the movie The Best Man: Final Chapters. In 2018, the National Association of Black Journalists named Hill Journalist of the Year.
Hill is a native of Detroit and graduated from Michigan State University in 1997 with a degree in journalism. In November 2019, Hill married Ian Wallace.
