National Press Foundation Announces New President Rebecca Sinderbrand

The National Press Foundation today announced the appointment of veteran journalist Rebecca Sinderbrand as president and chief executive officer.

“Rebecca Sinderbrand brings rich newsroom experience and a deep understanding of how to prepare journalists for a rapidly evolving journalism landscape,” said Sudeep Reddy, chair of NPF’s Board of Directors. “We’re thrilled for her to build on NPF’s remarkable legacy by innovating our programming, expanding our partnerships and strengthening our support for the journalism profession’s core values.”

Sinderbrand most recently served as Director of Georgetown University’s Journalism Program and Professor of the Practice. Prior to that, she spent more than two decades in political journalism, beginning her reporting career with the Associated Press and progressing to editorial leadership roles at NBC News, The Washington Post, Politico and CNN. She has also been a visiting lecturer in journalism and politics at Yale University and a fellow at both the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service and the International Reporting Project at Johns Hopkins University-SAIS.

Sinderbrand will succeed Anne Godlasky, who served as NPF’s president since 2023.

“At a time of profound change for journalism, the National Press Foundation is uniquely positioned to help journalists deepen their expertise, learn from one another and meet the moment,” said Sinderbrand. “I’m honored to join NPF and look forward to working with colleagues across the profession to build on that strong foundation and help shape the next chapter of its essential mission.”

The foundation also recognizes and encourages excellence in journalism through its awards and fellowships.

NPF is funded by journalism organizations, foundations, corporations and individual benefactors. All its programming is free and on the record.
