Uncertainty is the enemy of global economies, and perhaps no period in recent history has upended international markets, supply chains, corporate investment and labor than the tariff policies pursued in the first six months of the Trump administration.
A recent fragile truce eased stunning triple-digit taxes initially levied by the U.S. and China, but anxiety remains throughout the world as the Trump administration is committed to tariffs as a way of boosting the government’s bottom line and encouraging reinvestment in American-made products.
On July 15, the National Press Foundation will take stock of the administration’s strategy in a webinar featuring Deborah Elms, head of trade policy at the Hinrich Foundation and former executive director and founder of the Asian Trade Centre; David Lynch, global economics correspondent at The Washington Post; Dennis Shea, former deputy U.S. trade representative and U.S. ambassador to the World Trade Organization; and Jeffrey Schwab, senior counsel at the Liberty Justice Center.
