For journalists who don’t often cover it, the Supreme Court can be a mystery. Amy Howe of SCOTUSblog joined NPF to crack that box open, just a little. Her discussion, “Five things every journalist should know about Supreme Court coverage,” offers a 30-minute primer on how the court works, with specific steps to accurate, contextual coverage.

One tip: Learn what each justice sounds like by listening to online audio of an earlier case. As a reporter with a day pass on a big case, you’re likely to be seated behind a pillar, so you may not be able to see who is speaking.
