Gilbert Bailon, editor in chief of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, began his news career as a night cops reporter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He honed his editing and management skills in two decades at the Dallas Morning News and its Latino publication, Al Dia. He became editor of the St. Louis newspaper in 2012, and in August 2014 was at the helm  of one of the biggest stories of the decade, the police shooting of an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Mo. For this work, Bailon received the 2014 Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award. Bailon shared highlights of his career in NPF’s Master Class series, interviewed by NPF president Sandy K. Johnson.
