Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts has been awarded the 2022 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism from the National Press Foundation.
She accepted the award at NPF’s annual awards dinner February 23, 2023 in Washington, D.C.
In a career that has taken her from college basketball star, local sports reporter and top ESPN anchor and correspondent to co-anchor of ABC News’ Good Morning America, Roberts has won numerous journalism awards, including multiple Emmy Awards, sports awards and public service honors. Having recently celebrated 20 years at Good Morning America, Roberts travels the globe interviewing presidents, dignitaries and newsmakers including former President Barack Obama and the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, as well as reporting from the scene of numerous major news events for GMA and other ABC News broadcasts over the years including Hurricane Katrina and more recently Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
In addition to her work at ABC News, Roberts is also president of her own production company, Rock’n Robin Productions, a full-service, Emmy Award-winning broadcast and digital production company that creates documentaries and talk shows, to news-driven specials, scripted dramas, and sports programming.
The Sol Taishoff award was established in 1983 by Sol Taishoff, founder and editor of Broadcasting magazine and a veteran of electronic journalism, to recognize distinguished service to broadcast journalism, whether during a lifetime of service or during an exceptional year’s work.
NPF’s judges saluted Roberts’ decades of excellence in broadcast journalism—and also her resilience.
“Her broadcast skills are unflappable,” the judges said. “She commands the screen with intense energy and fearlessness.”
Last year’s recipient of the Taishoff award was Norah O’Donnell of CBS News. Previous winners include Audie Cornish, formerly of NPR News and now at CNN, Dana Bash of CNN, Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News and Bret Baier of the Fox News Channel.
