Escoto briefed National Press Foundation fellows in November 2022: Discrimination Driven by Data

Willmary Escoto is the U.S. Data Protection Lead for Access Now, an international organization that defends and extends the digital rights of users at risk around the world. Willmary specializes in data protection and consumer privacy. She also serves as the Freedom of Expression Lead for the North America region. Willmary possesses comprehensive GDPR knowledge and understanding of data protection laws in Europe and has obtained her CIPP/E credentials. She provides thought leadership and policy recommendations to the public and private sectors by offering a digital rights perspective to ensure the internet’s continued openness and the protection of human rights.

Willmary previously served as the Director of Policy and Government Affairs for the National Hispanic Media Coalition specializing in platform accountability, media diversity, and internet connectivity. Willmary graduated from the Howard University School of Law in 2018. While in law school, she was hosted by Public Knowledge as a Google Policy Fellow in 2016. Originally from Florida, Willmary attended the Florida International University, where she received a B.A in Psychology.
