Sergio Peçanha is an opinion columnist for The Washington Post, where he publishes the visual column “Absurd America.” Before The Post, he was a visual journalist at The New York Times.

He has a B.A. in journalism and a master’s degree in illustration. He began his career in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, and his work has been awarded multiple times in international visual journalism competitions.
