Nicole Schilit, the director of new initiatives at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), has spent the last decade supporting journalists in emergencies and independent media reporting in closed and closing societies. After having worked with the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), where she managed CPJ’s Journalist Assistance program, Nicole continued to work in providing safety, security, and relief assistance to journalists in distress, as well as in international media development, as a consultant. Her clients include the International Women’s Media Foundation, Freedom House, IREX, the Journalists in Distress Network, the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, and the Trust for Trauma Journalism.
