
Salant briefed National Press Foundation fellows in January 2024: Deep Sourcing Is A key Measure For Washington Reporters.
Jonathan D. Salant is the assistant managing editor, politics for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and a member of the second class of Paul Miller fellows. (1989-90) He has been a Washington reporter for 36 years — working for Newhouse News Service, Congressional Quarterly, the Associated Press. Bloomberg News and NJ Advance Media before joining the Post-Gazette — and earlier this year was inducted into the Society of Professional Journalists D.C. pro chapter’s Hall of Fame. He is a winner of the National Press Foundation’s Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress, the Toner Prize for Excellence in Local Political Reporting, and several other national, state and local reporting awards. He is a former president of the National Press Club, the Regional Reporters Association and SPJ’s D.C. pro chapter, and won the Metropolitan Media Softball League championship in 2021.
