Dirk van Duym is a research economist at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. He works in the research and methodology branch of the regional directorate, focusing on improving state and local economic measurement. His responsibilities have involved the development of the prototype state-level outdoor recreation analysis and working to research and implement new measures of housing services across different BEA divisions. He has a master’s degree and a doctorate in economics from the University of Minnesota, where he wrote his dissertation on the economics of water policy in the Western U.S. He graduated from Middlebury College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics.
