David Aldridge is a Senior Columnist for The Athletic, primarily covering the NBA and Washington, D.C. area sports. The Athletic is a digital subscription sports website now operating through The New York Times Company, and has more than 1.2 million subscribers worldwide. In his current position, he has covered the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the World Series, the NBA Finals, and Stanley Cup playoffs. He hosted the “Hoops, Adjacent” podcast through the 2023-24 NBA season.He has spent more than 30 years covering the NBA as a print, broadcast and digital journalist. Before joining The Athletic in 2018, he worked for Turner Sports. David was the 2016 recipient of the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the highest honor available for members of the print and electronic media short of enshrinement in the Hall itself. The award singles out winners for, in the words of the Hall, “outstanding contributions to basketball.”

David was the “Insider” for Turner from 2004 to 2018, breaking news stories and covering the league for TNT, NBA TV and NBA.com, and serving as a studio analyst on NBA TV programs. He also was a sideline reporter for TNT, appearing both on game broadcasts and on Inside the NBA, and wrote the popular weekly “Morning Tip” column for NBA.com. He was the network’s correspondent at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2016 Summer Games in Rio. He also covered college football and the Major League Baseball playoffs for TBS.
