Chávez briefed National Press Foundation fellows in January 2023: When the Sound is Silence

Christopher Chávez (PhD University of Southern California) is the Carolyne S. Chambers Distinguished Professor of Advertising and Director of the Center for Latina/o and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) at the University of Oregon. Chávez is also co-director of Crossings Radio, a joint collaboration between the University of Oregon and UNESCO, which attempts to draw attention to intercultural dialogue and conflict-sensitive reporting in journalism. He is the author of The Sound of Exclusion: NPR and the Latinx Public and Reinventing the Latino Television Viewer: Language Ideology and Practice. He is also co-editor of the anthology, Identity: Beyond Tradition and McWorld Neoliberalism. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals including Consumption, Markets and Culture, International Journal of Communication and Critical Studies in Media Communication.
