Charlie Cook is the editor and publisher of the independent, non-partisan Cook Political Report, a newsletter he started in 1984. The Cook Political Report covers congressional, gubernatorial, presidential elections and political trends. Over time it has come to be acknowledged by The New York Times as “a newsletter that both parties regard as authoritative.” Then CBS News anchor Bob Schieffer referred to the newsletter as “the bible of the political community.”

In 2010 Cook was named as a co-recipient of the American Political Science Association’s Carey McWilliams Award for “a major journalistic contribution to our understanding of politics” and in 2013 served as a Resident Fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Cook writes a twice-weekly column for National Journal, serves as a political analyst for NBC News  and was co-author of the 2020 edition of The Almanac of American Politics and will again for the 2022 edition that will be published later this year.
