
Jeff Hertrick has 43 years of journalism experience, including 18 years at National Geographic, and nearly 4 years with the National Press Foundation. He was a broadcast journalist spanning 20 years in Washington, DC, Georgia, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Twice a television news director, Jeff also worked as an executive producer, reporter, photojournalist, producer and editor in television news and reporter/anchor for radio news.
At National Geographic, Jeff worked with U.S. and international journalists, delivering video stories covering wildlife, the changing global climate, history, science and culture. He managed National Geographic’s launch of its YouTube Channel, and over his career, produced and led diverse storytelling, from a National Science Foundation funded 16-part video series on effects from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to National Geographic’s first video series from Iran.
He taught journalism for the Medill School of Journalism in Washington and for West Virginia University’s journalism school.
He has won Cine Golden Eagle, Cable Ace, and Associated Press awards, been nominated twice for News & Documentary Emmys, and was part of the National Geographic magazine team that was a Pulitzer finalist.
