Brian Westley is Assistant General Counsel at Axios Media Inc., where he advises journalists on a broad range of media law issues and conducts pre-publication review across Axios’ national and local platforms. Brian also teaches communication law at American University’s School of Communication. Before joining Axios, Brian was an attorney in the Standards & Practices department at PBS, where he advised producers, programming teams, and senior management on editorial standards, FCC regulations, and various legal issues. From 2012 to 2016, he was an attorney at a large intellectual property law firm in Washington. 

Brian attended law school at American University, where he was named editor-in-chief of the Law Review. Before law school, he spent nearly a decade as a journalist, including seven years at The Associated Press. Brian earned a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University and currently serves on the university’s alumni law board.
