Susan Milligan 2005
The Boston GlobeSusan Milligan is currently a political reporter in the Washington bureau of The Boston Globe, where she has worked since 1999. A series Milligan co-authored on lobbying and congressional abuse of power won the Society of American Business Editors and Writers' first-place award for projects.
Prior to joining the staff of The Boston Globe, Milligan worked as a free-lance writer based in Budapest, Hungary, covering the economic transition in Eastern Europe and the armed conflicts in the Balkans for the Globe and other newspapers and magazines.
In awarding her the Dirksen award, our judges had this to say: "Susan Milligan skillfully took her nearly 20 years of experience on Capitol Hill and crafted a series of in-depth articles that illuminated the actions and strategies of the elected leaders of Congress. The scope of her reporting went beyond the interests of one group or one political leader. Susan demonstrated how Congressional leaders have systematically manipulated the system to meet their own agenda."
A native of Buffalo, New York, Milligan has a B.A. in political science and journalism from the University at Albany. She resides in Washington, DC.
