Michael Kruse 2019
Michael Kruse of Politico was the winner of the 2019 National Press Foundation’s Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress for an insightful series on one of the newly elected moderates in Congress.
NPF judges said: “Kruse skillfully described how the congressional process works through the lens of first-year Rep. Mikie Sherrill, and more specifically how moderates like Sherrill slowly pivoted toward impeachment. His reporting and writing revealed the tensions within the Democratic caucus.”
Michael Kruse is a senior staff writer at Politico and Politico Magazine. Prior to joining Politico, he was on the enterprise team at the Tampa Bay Times, where he won the American Society of News Editors’ distinguished non-deadline writing award and the Paul Hansell Award for Distinguished Achievement in Florida Journalism.
