Kim Jaewon joined Nikkei Asia in 2016 as the publication’s first Seoul correspondent. Since then, he has covered South Korea’s big conglomerates including Samsung, LG, Hyundai Motor and SK.

He has covered Samsung Electronics’ success in developing foldable smartphones, as well as the troubles of the Lee family who founded the conglomerate.

Kim was part of the Nikkei team that covered the summits between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un in Singapore in 2018 and Hanoi in 2019.

Kim studied political science at Seoul National University. He is married to Sue with four children.
