NPF judges said: “Kevin Kallaugher captures the complexity of our age in his arresting cartoons. His work is layered, both visually and emotionally. KAL’s striking artwork jumps off the page with nuanced body language, vivid details and intense expressions.”

This is the only time in the history of the Berryman award that a cartoonist has won it twice; Kallaugher previously won in 2002.

Kevin Kallaugher (KAL) is the international award-winning editorial cartoonist for The Baltimore Sun and The Economist magazine of London. In a distinguished career than spans 39 years, Kal has created over 8000 cartoons and 140 magazine covers.  His resumé includes six collections of his published work, exhibitions in a dozen countries, awards and honors in seven. These awards include Feature Cartoonist of the Year in the UK, Cartoon of the Year in Europe, The Thomas Nast Prize in Germany and The Herblock Prize in the US. In 2015, Kal was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Kal has created acclaimed animations and calendars, toured the US with Second City improv comedy troupe and addressed audiences in than 40 states and 30 countries. Kal has presented TEDx talks in Warwick, England, Jackson Hole, WY and IdeaCity in Toronto. The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons said of Kevin “Commanding a masterful style, Kallaugher stands among the premier caricaturists of the (twentieth) century.”
