Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international anchor of the global affairs program “Amanpour,” is the winner of the 2024 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.
The National Press Foundation judging panel selected Amanpour for her decades of courageous reporting.
“When global powers collide, viewers can be assured of two things: Christiane Amanpour will be there, and world leaders will be facing her tough questioning. Christiane has been a gold standard for international broadcast journalism for more than 40 years,” NPF judges said.
Amanpour, who also hosts “The Amanpour Hour” on Saturdays, accepted the award at NPF’s Annual Journalism Awards Dinner on Feb. 20 at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C.
In addition to exclusive, searing interviews with global leaders and change agents, Amanpour is widely recognized as an inspiration to women journalists.
“There are few names that resonate globally like the name of Christiane Amanpour. Even saying her name aloud conjures up a vision of an iconic woman, reporting with professional clarity, seeking the truth amid settings that would otherwise obscure it,” NPF judges said. “Christiane has inspired a generation of journalists to be instinctually brave, always ready to go there, and to consistently demonstrate and fight for journalistic principles.”
NPF established the Taishoff Award in 1983 thanks to a generous bequest from the late Sol Taishoff, journalism veteran and founder and editor of Broadcasting magazine. It recognizes distinguished service to broadcast journalism, whether during a lifetime of service or during an exceptional year’s work.
Recent winners include Al Roker of NBC’s TODAY in 2023, Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts in 2022, and Norah O’Donnell, CBS Evening News anchor, in 2021. Dating back to 1983, other award winners include Ted Koppel, Gwen Ifill, Wolf Blitzer and scores of distinguished broadcasters.
