Two NPF Award Winners Pick Up Pulitzers

It’s a good day when the Pulitzer Prizes validate the winners of National Press Foundation journalism awards.

Today there were two:

  • The Tampa Bay Times investigation of school re-segregation, titled “Failure Factories,” won NPF’s first-ever Innovation in Journalism Award. (A reporter who worked on the project produced a “how we got that story” video tutorial for NPF.) The Pulitzers awarded the project its local reporting prize.mattingly-2015
  • The Sarasota Herald-Tribune and the Tampa Bay Times won the investigative Pulitzer for collaborative reporting on violence in Florida’s mental hospitals. The project, called “ Invisible. In Danger,” won NPF’s new Carolyn C. Mattingly Award for Mental Health Reporting.

Also: InsideClimate News was a finalist for the Pulitzer public service award. Its project, titled “Exxon: The Road Not Taken,” recently won NPF’s Thomas L. Stokes Award for Best Energy Writing.
