John Diedrich is an investigative reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Since joining the staff in 2004, Diedrich has investigated industrial plants, hospitals, gun store regulations, witness intimidation protections and federal undercover stings. His work has been honored with numerous awards including a George Polk Award and Gerald Loeb Award. In 2021, Diedrich was part of a team that exposed how Black renters in Milwaukee are disproportionately affected by deadly electrical fires. The project was later honored as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Prior to joining the Journal Sentinel, Diedrich covered the military for The Gazette of Colorado Springs and covered the Iraq War as an embedded reporter. Diedrich graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is married with two adult sons and enjoys mountain biking, music, reading and camping.
