Nugent briefed National Press Foundation fellows in October 2024: Missoula Invest Health: Including Residents in the Quest for Health Equity.

Mike Nugent represents Ward 4 on the Missoula City Council and is the chair of the Land Use and Planning Committee. He also serves on the Missoula City-County Board of Health. Prior to serving on council, he was a Commissioner on the Missoula Housing Authority Board of Directors, participating in their mission to provide quality housing solutions for low and middle-income households in Missoula and the surrounding area.

He also serves as or has served on numerous nonprofit boards and commissions throughout Montana, including currently as the Past President of the Missoula County United Way, Vice President of the Missoula Fair Grounds Foundation, and Commissioner of MYF, a youth sports league.

Nugent holds a Political Science degree and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Montana. He is the Vice President of Berkshire Hathaway Montana Properties, serving 18 communities across Montana. He also partners with his wife Staci and father in law owning and operating a local restaurant. Mike and Staci have two kids, James and Hannah, and two golden retrievers, Bruce and Ted.
