Mario Luis Ramirez is a Senior Consultant in the Public Law and Policy Practice for the Washington DC law firm Akin Gump. He is also a Managing Director at the nonprofit organization, Opportunity Labs, and a practicing emergency physician in Northern Virginia. He previously served on active duty with the US Air Force in Afghanistan before joining the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as a White House Fellow from 2014-2015. During his time at HHS, he served as the Acting Director of the Office of Pandemic and Emerging Threats within the Office of Global Affairs where he was involved in the responses to the global Ebola, MERS, and SARS outbreaks.
