Lisa Krantz is a Ph.D. student, teaching fellow and visual journalist at the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. Her research focuses on the intersection of journalism and trauma, an area she also studied during her fellowship with the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard from 2019-2020.

Krantz spent 24 years as a newspaper photographer, most recently at the San Antonio Express-News in Texas. She is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist in Feature Photography, has won POYi’s Community Awareness Award and placed in POYi’s Newspaper Photographer of the Year category several times. World Press Photo, NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism, ASNE and the Scripps Howard Awards have also recognized her work. She was an adjunct professor at Texas A&M-San Antonio for several semesters and regularly speaks and teaches at workshops and conferences around the country.

She is currently teaching Fundamentals of Visual Journalism and Strategic Communication at the University of Missouri. When not studying, teaching or photographing, she is training for the Boston Marathon and spending time with her husband and their two greyhounds.
