CBS Evening News anchor and Managing Editor Norah O’Donnell has been awarded the 2021 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism from the National Press Foundation. She accepted the award at NPF’s award dinner May 4, 2022.
The award was established in 1983 by Sol Taishoff, founder and editor of Broadcasting magazine and a veteran of electronic journalism, to recognize distinguished service to broadcast journalism, whether during a lifetime of service or during an exceptional year’s work.
NPF’s judges said O’Donnell had excelled both at leading the network’s news coverage during the tumultuous year and in more than two decades of excellence in television news reporting.
Originally from San Antonio, Texas, O’Donnell graduated began her career as a print reporter at Roll Call newspaper. She worked for NBC for a decade, covering Congress, the Pentagon, and the White House. She moved to CBS in 2011 and is now anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News and a contributing correspondent to 60 Minutes. She has won two Emmy awards and numerous other honors.
The Taishoff Award is the National Press Foundation’s highest honor for a broadcast journalist. Last year’s winner was Audie Cornish of National Public Radio. Previous winners include Dana Bash of CNN, Lester Holt of NBC, Bret Baier of Fox News, and Martha Raddatz of ABC.
O’Donnell accepted the honor at the National Press Foundation’s annual awards ceremony, held in person in Washington D.C. on May 4, 2022.
