John Carter joined the South China Morning Post in August 2018 as senior editor for political economy. Prior to joining SCMP, Carter enjoyed a successful 34-year career at the financial wire service Market News International that included a variety of leadership roles. As global managing editor, Carter supervised 13 international bureaus, implemented global news strategies, introduced new products and oversaw inter-regional news coverage. Carter also had stints as managing editor of Europe, Asia and in North America, where he was the Washington bureau chief. Carter holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and history from Hamilton College.
