Covering the 2012 Political Conventions

Date: Friday, June 1, 2012
Location: Webinar

NPF teamed up with the Regional Reporters Association to present a free webinar on Covering Political Conventions.  Anyone heading to Tampa in August or Charlotte in September will pick up valuable tips from our experts.

The first half focused on logistics, (0:00 to 45:00.) This webinar featured David Lightman of McClatchy News, a veteran of every convention since 1980 and Joe Keenan, Director of the Senate Press Gallery.

In the second half we talked with three political veterans about how to cover a delegation or follow the issues your audience cares about, in the chaos of a national nominating convention, (45:00-1:30:54). David Lightman stayed on and was joined by National Journal political correspondent Beth Reinhard and RRA President Joe Morton, of the Omaha World-Herald.
