Michelle Bernier-Toth joined the Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer in 1987, and has served as a consular officer in Damascus, Syria; Doha, Qatar; and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She has also served domestic assignments in the Bureau of Consular Affairs and the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. After converting to Civil Service, she became Director of CA/OCS/ACS in August, 2005 after serving as Deputy Director in CA/OCS/CI.
Ms. Bernier-Toth is married to Dr. Anthony B. Toth, a Middle East historian, and has three children. She earned a Masters Degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University in 1987 and a Bachelors of Art in Near Eastern Literature and Language from Yale University in 1985. She speaks Arabic and French.
