Matthew Baumgart
Matthew Baumgart is the Senior Director of Public Policy for the Alzheimer’s Association, where he leads the Association’s policy development, public health initiative and state government affairs efforts.
He joins the Association after garnering nearly 20 years experience working in the United States Senate. Most recently, Baumgart was Legislative Director for Senator Barbara Boxer of California. As chief legislative strategist for the Senator, Baumgart was responsible for supervising staff and managing all of the Senator’s legislative activities. Prior to working for Senator Boxer, Baumgart’s command of social policy issues, particularly health care, was developed and honed as a Legislative Assistant for over a decade to then-Senator Joe Biden of Delaware.
Between his tenure in the Senate and his joining the Alzheimer’s Association in September 2009, Baumgart was the Associate Director of the Initiative on Financial Security at the Aspen Institute in New York City.
A native of Seattle, Baumgart has a degree in Communications, with a second major in Political Science, from Washington State University in Pullman, WA.
