The National Press Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free professional development programs for journalists to increase their knowledge of complex issues. NPF seeks a program manager. This detail oriented, organized and creative person works with the NPF director of training and content on a variety of educational programs for journalists in Washington, D.C., around the U.S., in other countries and online. Responsibilities include:

Logistical planning and event management

•    negotiate contracts; book lodging, conference space, travel and catering; communicate with journalist-attendees and program speakers; edit all program materials in AP style; maintain budgets; and track fellow work post-program.

Marketing and digital content

•    market fellowships and events; assist digital media manager with program-related graphics and audio recordings; and update website with marketing and content.

Social media

•    collaborate with digital media manager to craft the foundation’s social media outreach using Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Webinars and broadcast studio

•    orient speakers and guests to studio protocols; assist director in control room, including sound production and teleprompter.

Other special projects may be added from time to time, including assistance with annual journalism awards dinner.

The successful applicant will be a key part of our collegial five-person staff. He or she will be expected to handle projects independently; contribute new ideas and potential solutions for office issues; work collaboratively to ensure that priority projects are completed by deadline.

Requirements: bachelor’s degree; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; experience planning and managing events; stellar customer service; excellent grammatical and business writing skills; knowledge of email marketing platforms and WordPress; knowledge of journalism industry and of AP style a plus.

Mainly Monday – Friday, regular hours. Some evening and weekend work is required (10%.) Occasional travel, which could include international travel, is required (10%.) Salary range is $40,000 – $45,000. First class benefits including full health and retirement contribution.
