Cartoon Gallery | Steve Sack
2006 Winner: Steve Sack, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Steve Sack has been the editorial cartoonist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune since 1981. The NPF judges thought that Steve Sacks' cartoons were witty and cleverly drawn. The reader knows at first glance who or what is being caricatured. They also praised his original drawing style.
A native of the Twin Cities, Steve was born in St. Paul in 1953. His newspaper career began while attending the University of Minnesota, where he illustrated features and drew editorial cartoons for the school paper, The Minnesota Daily. Two years later he was hired as staff cartoonist for the Fort Wayne, Indiana, Journal-Gazette.
After three years Steve returned to Minnesota to join the Star Tribune. He has won assorted local and national cartooning awards, and has once been named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
With partner Craig MacIntosh he produces the children’s Sunday Comics feature “Doodles,” and in his free time, he enjoys oil painting.
Steve resides in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his wife Beth.
