Charles C. Self, Ph.D., is president of 227 International, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in journalism education, civil discourse, and media development. He is Emeritus Professor, Founding Dean, and Edward L. and Thelma Gaylord Chair of Journalism and Mass Communication at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma. He has been President of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the Council of Communication Associations, and the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication. He serves on the boards of several international organizations. His firm does work with several Washington, D.C., based agencies and organizations and he has worked with organizations abroad. He writes a blog on issues of civil discourse and media (http://227media.net/227-media-blog/) and offers comments on media and discourse on twitter @cself. His research has focused on media and civil society, new media technologies, international communication, and media and democracy. He is author of more than 100 academic publications and one book. He holds a Ph.D. from The University of Iowa, and MA from the University of Missouri, and a BA from Andrews University.
