How I Got the Story: Joaquin Sapien and Abrahm Lustgarten

by Daric Snyder 0 comments

Joaquin Sapien and Abrahm Lustgarten of ProPublica talk with NPF's Linda Streitfeld about their series on hydraulic fracturing, a little-known, yet controversial method of natural gas drilling. Sapien and Lustgarten are the 2009 winners of NPF's Thomas L. Stokes Award for Best Energy Writing. They discuss how they built their stories by spending months chasing the various aspects of the issue: digging through mountains of documents and legislation, as well as interviewing experts, government officials, agents of the drilling companies, and the people affected by the drilling's environmental consequences.
