NPF’s blogger friends can be part of an influential international gathering of global leaders, technologists and UN experts meeting in New York next month. The Social Good Summit will be held during UN Week, September 19-22. Presented by the UN Foundation with Mashable and the 92Y, the summit focuses on the power of innovative technology and new media to solve the challenges facing our world.

Sessions will cover topics like the future of maternal health and mobile technology; how networks are changing global foreign policy and activism; the future of ethics in a connected world; micro-finance and social change; Skype in the classroom; social entrepreneurship, and more.

Highlights from Days 3 and 4 of the J2J Conference

10:00 AM - Aeras Global President and CEO Jerald Sadoff announced that on 15 July, 2009 Aeras conducted the first efficacy trial of a new vaccine for tuberculosis in more than 80 years, on a baby in South Africa.  Dr. Sadoff's PowerPoint presentation is available now on our website, and audio will be uploaded shortly.

4:30 PM - Two speakers today have made the point that HIV prevention is inextricably linked to poverty. Dr. Sharlene Swartz says that programs targeting orphans risk leaving out many other vulnerable children who are living in poverty. And Dr. Laura Guay pointed out that treating infected infants and children with antiretroviral drugs won’t make them grow and gain weight if they don’t have enough to eat. 2:30 PM - Eric Harper, Director of the Sex Worker Education and Advocacy Task Force argues that decriminalization of sex work will can help prevent HIV/AIDS.  His comments have sparked questions from the…

Maha Masud joined the NPF in July 2008. Her responsibilities include organizing program logistics and supporting the Director of Programs. Before joining NPF, Maha gained program experience at the Institute of International Education, and as an AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteer. Previously, Maha has lived in Chile where she helped develop an online, multi-media English learning program for university students. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Journalism.
