The National Press Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides free professional development programs to journalists to increase their knowledge of complex issues. NPF seeks a responsible, creative, and detail-oriented intern for spring and summer 2011 to assist staff with varied projects. Responsibilities include:
Assist Digital Media Manager with content creation and uploading on our website. This will include writing short copy as well as editing video and audio stories for web presentation.
Research, fact-check and prepare content for agency entries in our Washington Beat Book (http://nationalpress.org/programs-and-resources/washington-beat-book/) under the supervision of Director of Programs.
Support Programs Assistant with logistical planning for all journalist training programs. This will include programs in Washington D.C. and may include international programs, depending on NPF’s developing programs calendar. This may provide an opportunity for international travel.
NPF is looking for a candidate with an interest and/or background in journalism who is willing to take on diverse projects. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to gain quality, hands-on work experience and be an integral part of our small staff. Interns are welcome to attend any and all local NPF journalist training programs. The right candidate could be an upper-level undergraduate, graduate student, recent graduate or young professional looking to gain more experience.
New Award Established for Journalism That Explores Federal-Local Connection
The National Press Foundation has established an important new award for journalism that explores the federal government’s effect on business and economic life in America. The award, temporarily named “the Feddie,” will come with a cash prize of $5,000 and lesser amounts to runners-up. The Feddie will be presented for the first time at the 2011 Annual Awards Dinner.
Expansion of the National Press Foundation’s Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award
The National Press Foundation is expanding its Editor of the Year Award to include nominations from editors around the country and the selection of multiple winners. The top winner will receive $5,000 and honorable mentions will receive a cash award of $1,000. The awards will be presented at the annual NPF Awards Dinner, March 1, 2011, in Washington.
This is the first year nominations are being accepted for this award from external parties as well as internally from award committee members. In previous years, a single winner was chosen from internal nominations.
