Everett McKinley Dirksen Awards for Distinguished Reporting of Congress

The Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress was created in 1980 in honor of the late Republican Senator from Illinois, shown right. The award is intended to recognize individuals whose work shows thoughtful appraisal and insight into the workings of the U.S. Congress. The winning journalist or team of journalists receives a $5,000 prize. Entries are welcome from journalists at any U.S.-based news organization. The award is presented at the annual Awards Dinner.

Application Instructions

Only U.S. based journalists and other employees of news organizations are eligible for this award, which covers journalism published or broadcast from Sept. 1, 2014 to Sept. 1, 2015.

The deadline for 2015 nominations will be 5:00 PM EDT Thursday, October 15, 2015. Click here for the application form.
