Despite the cool economic climate, February 10 brought unseasonably warm weather and large crowds to the Hilton Washington Hotel for The National Press Foundation’s 26th Annual Awards dinner. Slightly fewer than 1,000 people attended the dinner, bringing in $500,000 in unrestricted revenue for the foundation. “This is remarkable support from many people for our free educational programs for journalists” said NPF president Bob Meyers. Many of the award winners used their acceptance speeches to discuss the state of American journalism and how to move forward in an increasingly difficult time.
