Jack W. Germond has been a newspaperman for more than 50 years and has covered national politics and Washington since 1960. He spent 20 years with Gannett Newspapers, the last four as chief of their Washington bureau. He then spent eight years with the Washington Star and, after it closed, 20 years with the Baltimore Sun. Germond has served as a political analyst for NBC (on the Today show) and for CNN, and as a panelist for the McLaughlin Group show and also for Inside Washington with Gordon Peterson. With his writing partner, Jules Witcover, Germond wrote five columns a week for 25 years. Germond and Witcover wrote four books on the presidential campaigns of 1980 through 1992. Germond has also written a memoir, Fat Man in a Middle Seat – Forty Years Covering Politics (published in 1999 by Random House) and Fat Man Fed Up – How American Politics Went Bad (published in 2004, also by Random House).
